With the help of a CIA agent and rebels from Chad, they made their escape back to the U.S.A. At Chad, their rebel friends presented the couple with a treasure consisting of gold bars and diamonds. Shakur-as he was known by his friends-lived with Hadeza while being aware that people under the command of her father were constantly shadowing both of them. He decided to write a manuscript about his life and planned to put it into publication even if he would not live to see, it happen. When his greatest fear did happen and a bullet from his fathers men killed Hadeza, he ended his own life with a heroin overdose, after securing the treasures and the manuscript at his apartment. Meanwhile, the new apartment occupant, Lesley Maako, also lived a life hunted by the Mafia. He came upon the treasure and the manuscript by accident, and he decided to heed the request of Shakur to have the later for publication. Just after he had contacted a publisher, he encountered Victor, the man ordered by the Mob to assassinate him.
